The Parking Advisory Committee is the eyes and ears for all things regarding parking lots and parking on campus. Committee will be providing recommendations for improvement of parking on campus. Committee will be making decisions on parking violations and policy.

Welcome/Opening Remarks: Miriam Morgan

NEW BUSINESS

  • Repairs & Maintenance
    • Spaces directly in front of residence halls being repainted for service vehicles only
    • Katherine Miller informed the committee that a plan to resurface and replat the spaces in H-3 is in the works.
  • Student request to committee
    • Nursing students: would like lot C-3 reserved for nursing students. 394 spots/7% of student parking on campus. Committee opted not to approve this request for the following reason: C-3 serves multiple buildings and the Dishman Gallery, not just nursing. Katherine Miller added that more parking will soon be available in that area as the band practice lot will be moving and C-4 will be open for parking again.
  • LUPD request to committee:
    • Numerous complaints about all-day parking at EV charging stations. Other universities limit parking at chargers to 4 hours, then it is a timed zone violation. Request to paint time limit on curb & start ticketing. Committee approved this request, as long as the written policy was changed to reflect this, signage or curb paint is added, and a campus announcement is sent out. A work order will be entered and no tickets given until the policy, signage and announcement are complete.

OLD BUSINESS

  • Student requests to committee:

    • SGA: would like some of reserved spots in G-2 (lot between Reaud and STEM) opened for general parking. Committee agreed that half the reserved spaces can be designated as all permit parking. A work order will be entered.
    • Graduate Student Assistant: would like degreed student workers to have access to reserved parking. Committee opted not to approve this request due to the shortage of Faculty/Staff/Accessible parking in the reserved lots, the high number of degreed student workers on campus, and the logistical issues around gate access to a population that changes each semester.

  • Next meeting will be April 11, 2024 via TEAMS
