Nursing Schools Almanac has ranked the �鶹ӳ��Ӱ�� JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing among 2021’s best prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs in the state.

High school senior, Kristin Hebert, joined the Showcase of Southeast Texas marching band this fall as a feature twirler – one of the most prestigious positions in baton twirling. It’s an honor that she has dreamed of reaching since the age of four and was able to achieve sooner than expected, thanks to the �鶹ӳ��Ӱ�� Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities program.

Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is announcing their Community Picnic and Open Mic Nights. This new event allows the community to bring food and enjoy a picnic on the museum grounds while enjoying talent from anyone needing a mic and a speaker.

The Southeast Texas Food Bank and Education First Federal Credit Union has made it possible for Homer Drive and Guess Elementary Schools to receive a Cardinal NEST (Navigating Excellence Success and Triumph). Cardinal NEST learning labs are innovative and high-tech learning spaces for students to engage with STEAM-related software.  

�鶹ӳ��Ӱ�� President Jaime R. Taylor and Dade Phelan, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, announced that the recently approved state budget includes millions of dollars in new revenue to increase per-student funding at LU and mitigate the impact of recent tropical storms.

The LU Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce their first production of the semester, The Book Club Play, written by Karen Zacarias and directed by LU student Ashley Galan. The Book Club Play will take the stage on September 30 through October 3, with showtime beginning at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the University Theatre.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked �鶹ӳ��Ӱ�� as the fifth highest on the diverse index among public universities in Texas, and in the top 14% among other ranked, national institutions.

After several months of extensive groundwork, the 16 winners of the 2021 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship presented their research at �鶹ӳ��Ӱ��’s first SURF Symposium.

The �鶹ӳ��Ӱ�� Alumni Advisory Board has elected Nga “Tea” (Nguyen) Do ’08 of Beaumont to serve as 2021-2022 president. Fred Vernon ’12, ’13 of Port Arthur will serve as past president and Lila (Creamer) Stevens ’01 of Beaumont will serve as president-elect.

Spindletop Gladys City Museum is set to host Jazz and Wine Night Thursday, Sept. 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Jazz and Wine Nights are simply that-music and drinks with old friends and new friends. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, although some seating will be provided by the museum. The cost is $10 a person for non-members and free for museum members.
