The Texas Legislature has approved $44.9 million in capital construction assistance to support the renovation of the
Mary and John Gray Library at Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô. This funding, approved in mid-October as part , will support the first significant renovation of the library since it was dedicated in 1976.
“This is a much-needed renovation for a facility that has sat at the heart of Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô’s campus for nearly a half-century,” said Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô President Jaime Taylor. “We’re currently in the early planning phase, but these renovations will allow us to improve resources and technologies that enhance the student experience and better serve faculty.”
Planning will begin in 2022 and it is estimated that various phasing of construction will take approximately 3 years. The proposed expansion and renovation will replace building infrastructure components and improve accessibility throughout the eight-story building. The newly renovated library also will house a modern Digital Learning Center to support the rapid growth and future success of LU’s online programs.
“This project will transform the learning experience at Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô,” Taylor said. “Developing a learning commons environment where students have access to physical and virtual resources, collaborative spaces to work on projects with other students, and quiet spots to study is a game-changer for the LU campus. This project is aligned with our focus on student success and will strengthen the Gray Library’s role as a hub for learning as we prepare our graduates for entry into today’s global workforce.”
