LU’s Dr. Stinson, Dr. White selected for BBB of Southeast Texas Women of Integrity award

Â鶹ӳ»­Ó°Òô’s Dr. Cynthia Stinson, chair of the Department of Nursing, and Dr. Janeal White, associate professor and internship coordinator of family studies, have been selected to receive Women of Integrity Awards from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Southeast Texas. Dr. Stinson

The award celebrates the achievements and contributions of women who have excelled in their professional fields and made significant contributions to their communities. 

"Integrity is an important trait and must be shown through actions even when it is difficult. We measure success in life by the lives we make a difference in,” Stinson said. “This award is an affirmation of these beliefs that I cherish and live by each day. I am grateful, humbled, and honored to receive this award."  

Dr. Stinson is actively involved in local community service, particularly with the Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program in Southeast Texas, where she contributes by providing education, serving as a board member for the Pink Power Support Group, participating in survivor groups and programs, including the Wise Woman Program, and organizing the "Cancer Crusaders" educational series for both the public and healthcare providers. 

Dr. White is a certified family life educator with nearly two decades of research experience, specializing in homelessness, resilience, and dignity. She's currently researching disaster preparedness for homeless families in Southeast Texas, funded by Â鶹ӳ»­Ó°Òô's Center for Resiliency. Dr. White

“I am humbled to be recognized for the work I do as an educator and advocate. Thank you, BBB of Southeast Texas, for uplifting women in our community who are living out their passions by empowering those around them,” White said in a statement.  

Dr. White consults for the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission, leading efforts to address homelessness regionally. She also coordinates 187 community organizations within the Southeast Texas Coalition for the Homeless, overseeing the federally mandated Point-In-Time Count assessing homelessness in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin Counties.  

Dr. White is engaged in many professional organizations, chairing the National Council on Family Relations' Mentoring Academy, serving on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County, and holding roles in various family relations associations. 

Dr. White and Dr. Stinson will be recognized at the 4th annual Texas BBB Professional Women's Conference on September 28, 2023, at Ford Park.
