The Master of Science in Chemistry at Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô thesis option takes about 24 months to complete. Through your program, you will explore laboratory- and instrumentation-based research. You will gain the confidence required to perform independent laboratory work and will most likely present your results at national and even international conferences. With a thesis-based master's degree, you can further your career in research and development and/or advance your career as an industrial chemist.
The Master of Science in Chemistry at Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô non-thesis option also takes about 24 months to complete. Your program will develop the in-depth course work knowledge required for non-laboratory careers such as patent officer, high school teacher or even computer database officer.
The Master of Science program in Chemistry prepares students for advanced graduate studies or entry into industrial or educational positions. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department has active research programs in several areas including environmental chemistry biochemistry, surface chemistry, computational chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry, transition metal coordination chemistry, molecular spectroscopy and organic reaction mechanisms.
This program prepares you for practice as a professional chemist by teaching academic fundamentals, creative and independent thinking through independent study and research, and leadership skills through interaction with undergraduate students as graduate teaching assistants. The program is also excellent preparation for further advanced study at other institutions, leading to the Ph.D. degree in chemistry or professional degrees in chemistry-related fields.
